Two-Fisted Law ** (1932, Tim McCoy, Alice Day, Wheeler Oakman, Tully Marshall, Walter Brennan, John Wayne) – Classic Movie Review 5482

Tim McCoy stars as rancher Tim Clark, who, having been cheated out of his ranch becomes a prospector for silver and strikes it rich, and returns to Betty Owen (Alice Day), the woman he loves. But he is only just in time as the ruthless cheating landowner Bob Russell (Wheeler Oakman), along with crooked Deputy Sheriff Bendix (Walter Brennan), is trying to con her out of her homestead too. Tully Marshall plays the local lawman, Sheriff Malcolm, who helps the hero out.

Director D Ross Lederman’s 1932 horse opera is a familiar but above-average B-movie Western, with zesty performances and a bright script by Kurt Kempler based on a William Colt MacDonald story.

As Duke (his own real-life nickname), John Wayne appears in his third B-movie Western, one of only three he made for Columbia studios, but one of dozens he made between his starring role big breaks – The Big Trail in 1930 and Stagecoach in 1939.

Also in the cast are Wallace MacDonald, Richard Alexander, Merrill McCormick and Bud Osborne.

It follows Texas Cyclone (1932).
