A Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child ** (1989, Robert Englund, Lisa Wilcox, Kelly Jo Minter, Danny Hassel) – Classic Movie Review 5926

‘Freddy has a son’! Robert Englund is back as old pizza face Freddy Krueger, who has resurrected himself through the dreams of the unborn child of his pregnant teenage arch-enemy Dream Master Alice Johnson (Lisa Wilcox) and he is stalking new victims among her unbelieving school friends.

Alice finds Freddy Krueger is striking through the sleeping mind of her unborn child, hoping to be reborn into the real world.

Director Stephen Hopkins’s 1989 horror movie fourth sequel is bizarre and grisly, and delivers with imaginative special effects, sets and action sequences, directed at a fast pace.

Also in the cast are Kelly Jo Minter, Danny Hassel, Erika Anderson, Nick Mele, Whitby Hertford and Joe Seely.

It is written by Leslie Bohem, shot by Peter Levy, produced by Robert Shaye and Rupert Harvey, scored by Jay Ferguson and designed by C J Strawn.

It cost and earned a lot less. It was budgeted at $6 million and grossed $22 million in the US, whereas its predecessor A Nightmare on Elm Street IV: The Dream Master (1988) was the highest grossing independent film of all time, costing $13 million and taking just under $50 million in the US.

It follows A Nightmare on Elm StreetA Nightmare on Elm Street Part 2: Freddy’s Revenge and A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors and A Nightmare on Elm Street IV: The Dream Master.

You just can’t keep an evil man down. A Nightmare on Elm Street 6: Freddy’s Dead – The Final Nightmare followed in 1991. Are you ready for more Freddy?
