‘IT’S THE WEST AT ITS BEST! WITH ROOTIN’…TOOTIN’…SHOOTIN’ COOPER!’ Director Stuart Heisler’s 1945 romantic comedy Western Along Came Jones stars Gary Cooper, Loretta Young, William Demarest and Dan Duryea.
Along came Cooper as upright but incompetent cowboy Melody Jones, along with his nagging buddy George Fury (Demarest). Jones is confused with killer Monte Jarrad (Duryea), but eventually rescued by feisty heroine Cherry de Longpre (Young), in this amiable, amusing Western spoof with quietly winning performances.
The film is as nice and mild mannered as Cooper’s character. It is Cooper’s first outing as producer. Nunnally Johnson’s screenplay is based on the story by Alan Le May.
Also in the cast are Russell Simpson, Frank Sully, Arthur Loft, Ray Teal, Frank Cordell, Lane Chandler, Chris-Pin Martin, Willard Robertson, Don Costello and Walter Sande.
Along Came Jones is directed by Stuart Heisler, runs 90 minutes, is made by International Pictures and Cinema Artists, is released by RKO, is written by Nunnally Johnson, based on the story by Alan Le May, is shot in black and white by Milton Krasner, is produced by Gary Cooper and is scored by Charles Maxwell, Arthur Lange and Hugo Friedhofer.
