Roy Rogers stars as Billy the Kid’s lookalike deputy sheriff in director Joseph Kane’s 1938 Republic Pictures American Western film Billy the Kid Returns.

Roy Rogers takes the place of the shot dead Billy the Kid to defend the settlers of Lincoln County, New Mexico, from evil ranchers. Roy is aided by travelling musical instrument salesman Frog Millhouse (Smiley Burnette) and abetted by Ellen Moore (Lynne Roberts). Wade Boteler plays Sheriff Pat Garrett, who shoots his one-time friend Billy.
