Lea Thompson and Victoria Jackson star as single girls Stacy and Melissa, who head off to a posh singles retreat health spa in search of Mr Right and confront a whole bunch of Mr Wrongs, in director Geneviève Robert’s lighthearted 1988 comedy Casual Sex?, with relationships between women and men seen from a female perspective.
Casual Sex? is gently amusing rather than uproariously funny, though its look at male attitudes to single women is comically close to the bone, so it is incisive and effective. Unfunny American confrontational comedian Andrew Dice Clay puts in an unattractive performance as a girl-hunting guy called Vinny.
The screenplay by Wendy Goldman and Judy Toll is adapted from their stage play.
Kid Creole and The Coconuts perform (No More) Casual Sex, written by Kid Creole (as August Darnell) and Stony Browder Jr.
Also in the cast are Stephen Shellen, Jerry Levine, Andrew Dice Clay, Mary Gross, Valerie Breiman, Peter Dvorsky, David Sargent, Cynthia Phillips, Don Woodard, Danny Breen, Bruce Abbott, Susan Ann Connor and Dan Woren.
There was no cinema release in Britain.
