Children of the Corn II: The Final Sacrifice * (1993, Terence Knox, Paul Scherrer, Ryan Bollman) – Classic Movie Review 5851

A different cast appears in director David F Price’s much worse 1993 belated sequel to the 1984 Children of the Corn, which plays like a re-run of the plot of the first movie.

This time a reporter John Garrett (Terence Knox) and his son Danny (Paul Scherrer) arrive in the same mysterious secluded mid-America rural small town of Gatlin, Nebraska, to probe the deaths that followed from the cult of youngsters practising human sacrifices.

And then nightmare of slaughter begins again eight years after the first when murderous cult of children is waiting in the corn fields and an orphan named Micah (Ryan Bollman) is possessed by He Who Walks behind the Rows.

Also in the cast are Rosalind Allen, Christie Clark, Ned Romero, Ted Travelstead, Ed Grady, John Bennes, Wallace Merck, Joe Inscoe, Kelly Bennett [Kellie Bennett] and Rob Treveiler [Robert C Treveiler].

It is written by Gilbert Adler and A L Katz, shot by Levie Isaacks, produced byDavid G Stanley and Scott A Stone, scored by Daniel Licht and Gregory Melton.

Alas, the promise of the title was unfulfilled. It was no Final Sacrifice and six more sequels followed: Children of the Corn III: Urban Harvest (1995), Children of the Corn IV: The Gathering (1996), Children of the Corn V: Fields of Terror (1998) and Children of the Corn 666: Isaac’s Return (1999), Children of the Corn: Revelation (2001), and Children of the Corn: Genesis (2011).

A TV film remake, also titled Children of the Corn, was released in 2009.

RIP Daniel Licht, who died of cancer on 2 August 2017, aged 60. He was also the composer of the sequel, Children of the Corn III: Urban Harvest (1995), all eight series of the Emmy-award-winning show Dexter and the popular video games Silent Hill and Dishonored.
