The Brat Pack meets Mrs Robinson in director Lewis John Carlino’s 1983 Class.
Jacqueline Bisset has certainly got class as Ellen, the rich, attractive older woman who has a fling with the naive 17-year-old scholarship country boy roommate (Andrew McCarthy) of her suave and handsome son Skip (Rob Lowe). The two boys share a room at an expensive preppy high school, and Skip sends Jonathan to lose his virginity in a night on the tiles in Chicago, where Jonathan hooks up with Ellen.
Bisset, Lowe and McCarthy make the risqué material sexy, funny and even quite touching, effectively juggling the laughs and the drama. The spirited cast help to turn this into a good fun coming-of-age romantic comedy drama, working on an easy-going, good-natured screenplay by Jim Kouf and David Greenwalt.
Also in the cast are Cliff Robertson, Stuart Margolin, John Cusack, Joan Cusack, Dick Cusack, Alan Ruck, Virginia Madsen, Casey Siemaszko, Remak Ramsay, Rodney Pearson, Deborah Thalberg, Fern Parsons, Aaron Douglas Zuber, Anna Marie Horsford, Hal Frank, William Visteen, James O’Reily, Caitlin Hart, Virginia Morris, John Kapelos, George Womack, Maria Ricossa and Stewart Figa.
