Co-writer/ director Edward Dein’s 1959 Universal International Pictures black and white mix of drama, horror and romance Curse of the Undead stars Michael Pate as black-garbed gun-packing vampire Drake Robey, who is hired by rancher Dolores Carter (Kathleen Crowley) who thinks he is a gunfighter.
But, when she discovers her mistake, she turns to minister Preacher Dan (Eric ‘Rawhide’ Fleming), who has a plan.
The Western film meets the vampire horror movie with conspicuous lack of success. But, as the cinema’s first vampire Western, it gets some marks for trying something interesting and new at that time.
It is filmed at Universal Studios, 100 Universal City Plaza, Universal City, California.
