Hollow Point ** (1996, Donald Sutherland, John Lithgow, Thomas Ian Griffith, Tia Carrere) – Classic Movie Review 5233

Donald Sutherland is his usual brilliant self as Garret Lawton, a surprisingly principled hitman, in director Sidney J Furie’s otherwise unremarkable 1996 action comedy thriller, which is burdened down with the heavy weight two weak lead performances.

Alas, Thomas Ian Griffith and Tia Carrere light no fires as DEA agent Max Parrish and FBI operative Diane Norwood who team up to go against the evil drug-running money-laundering Mob. But John Lithgow cuts an entertaining slice of prime ham as Thomas Livingston, a master gangster bidding to unite all the foreign Mobs.

Written by Robert Geoffrion and James H Stewart, the movie is modest hokum. But it is done with some gusto and there are even hints of style in Furie’s direction.

Also in the cast are David Hemblen, Carl Alacchi, Robert Ito, Adreas Apergis, Lisa Bronwyn Moore and Kliment Denchev.
