Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito, the likeable stars of Twins (1988), are re-teamed as doctors Alex Hesse and Larry Arbogast for director Ivan Reitman’s less funny but still amusing 1994 silly comedy.
Playing off his macho image, Arnold Schwarzenegger is engaging as a scientist who agrees to have a baby to further his fertility-drug experiment, supervised by fellow doctor Danny DeVito.
Even given the, er, inconceivable nature of the plot, Kerwin Wade and Chris Conrad’s screenplay is slightly strained in places, some of the comedy is too daft for words.
And Emma Thompson looks uncomfortable, especially with the physical capers, as the ovarian specialist the lads pinch an egg from.
Also in the cast are Frank Langella, Pamela Reed, Aida Turturro, James Eckhaus, Megan Cavanagh, Welker White, Kathleen Chalfant, Merle Kennedy, Judy Collins, Mindy Seeger and Tracey Walter.
