Just Married ***½ (2003, Ashton Kutcher, Brittany Murphy, David Rasche, Veronica Cartwright, George Gaynes) – Classic Movie Review 1890

Director Shawn Levy’s 2003 comedy is a great showcase for hilarious hi-jinks as poor boy Ashton Kutcher and rich girl Brittany Murphy defy her parents (David Rasche, Veronica Cartwright), marry in haste and suffer the honeymoon from hell in Europe.

Two cute stars plus one funny script (by Sam Harper) equals a surprisingly bright and amusing romantic comedy with a generous spirit and a warm heart. George Gaynes from the Police Academy films plays Father Robert.

Brittany Murphy’s big screen début started with Clueless (1995) and she got tremendous attention for her role in Girl Interrupted. She died an untimely death on December 20 2009, aged 32. The LAPD and Los Angeles County Coroner closed the case within one hour, attributing her death to pneumonia and anaemia. Five months after Brittany’s unexpected demise, her husband Simon Monjack was found dead at the same house, with an identical cause of death as Brittany.

Shawn Levy directed Big Fat Liar (2002), Cheaper by the Dozen (2003), Night at the Museum (2006), Date Night (2010), Real Steel (2011), The Internship (2013) and Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb (2014).

It proved the last film of George Gaynes, who died on February 15 2016 at the age of 98. He starred in all seven of the Police Academy films as Commandant Lassard.
