Okay, now it’s April 2004, but where were we eight months ago with Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill: Vol 1?
Oh yeah, The Bride (Uma Thurman) has survived a massacre on her wedding day and is out to kill those responsible. Back in America after a shocking bloodbath in Tokyo, she’s now after Daryl Hannah’s one-eyed killer Elle Driver and Michael Madsen’s thick slob Budd Sidewinder on her way to killing her ex-lover Bill (David Carradine).
Does Kill Bill: Vol 2 fit the bill, or is it overkill? Well, yes and no. It’s a bit too long, a bit too chatty (even if it is Quentin Tarantino’s weird and wonderful dialogue) and there’s too little of the brilliant fighting that made Vol 1 so exciting. Yet, with Tarantino’s unparalleled flair for raiding other movies, there’s even more bravura style than in Vol 1. Thurman holds centre stage commandingly and Carradine is very powerful too.
The Uma Thurman-Daryl Hannah deadly catfight is definitely the movie’s knockout highlight and there is plenty of black humour that will send you laughing all the way to the pub and Tarantino to the bank.
Lucy Liu and Vivica A Fox only appear in footage from the first film.
