The 1958 British comedy Next to No Time reunites star Kenneth More with his director on Genevieve, Henry Cornelius, and is based on the short story The Enchanted Hour by Paul Gallico, adapted for the screen by Cornelius.
More manages to make the most of his charismatic character as David Webb, a clever but reticent engineer who, with the help of American actress Georgie Brant (Betsy Drake) and bartender Steve (John Welsh), discovers a new confident self-belief and seals his ambitious business plans in selling an engineering system to rich (Roland Culver) while travelling on the Queen Elizabeth to New York City.
Next to No Time is a gentle but charming comedy that, with the help of its fine cast, reliably delivers some light laughs and pleasant entertainment.
