The 1973 comedy drama Property Is No Longer a Theft [La proprietà non è più un furto] is the last film in Italian director Elio Petri’s essential Trilogy of Neurosis, starting with Investigation of a Citizen Above Suspicion (1970) and The Working Class Go to Heaven [La Classe Operaia Va in Paradiso] (1971).
Flavio Bucci stars as young bank cashier Total, allergic to banknotes, who quits his job after witnessing an armed robbery and starts a new life as a thief, first targeting a former client, a greedy rich butcher (Ugo Tognazzi), who has caught and beaten one of the thieves.
Also in the cast are Daria Nicolodi, Julien Guiomar, Mario Scaccia, Orazio Orlando, Cecilia Polizzi, Jacques Herlin, Gigi Proietti and Salvo Randone.
The strangely surreal and satirical story and screenplay are by Elio Petri and Ugo Pirro.
Property Is No Longer a Theft [La proprietà non è più un furto] runs 126 minutes, is made by Quasars Film Company, Labrador Films, released by Titanus (1973) (Italy) and Luso-France (1974) (France), is written by Elio Petri and Ugo Pirro, is shot by Luigi Kuveiller, and is scored Ennio Morricone.
It is released by Arrow Films in 2017 in the UK on Blu-ray.
