The Astro-Zombies ½ (1968, Wendell Corey, John Carradine, Tom Pace, Joan Patrick, Rafael Campos, Tura Satana) – Classic Movie Review 3047

1

Incredibly dreadful 1968 Sci-Fi horror yarn, with Wendell Corey (as the investigating FBI agent Holman) and John Carradine (as the usual crazed doctor Dr DeMarco, who is making the Astro-Zombies) unfairly embarrassed.

DeMarco is fired from the US Space Agency and creates a super-human Astroman from various bits of a murdered criminal’s dead body and the Creature goes on a killing spree, attracting a spy ring and the FBI.

Co-writer/co-producer/director Ted V Mikels’s movie is very bad indeed, but unfortunately not really so bad it’s good. It’s upsetting that the stars lose their dignity but there are definitely quite a few laughs to had.

Tom Pace plays Eric Porter, Joan Patrick is Janine Norwalk, Rafael Campos is Juan, Joseph Hoover is Chuck Edwards, Victor Izay is Dr Petrovich, William Bagdad is Franchot, John Hopkins is Detective Thompson and Tura Satana is Satana.

Mikels’s quasi-sequel, Mark of the Astro-Zombies. followed in 2004.
