The Beatles: Eight Days a Week – The Touring Years **** (2016) – Movie Review

Director Ron Howard’s delicious documentary compilation of footage featuring music, interviews, and stories of The Beatles’ 250 concerts from 1963 to 1966 is fab – obviously.

A labour of love, it features no personal lowdown stuff or backstage or celebrity gossip, just the four mop top boys and the music – a sweet celebration! It is advertised as ‘The band you know. The story you don’t’ but there are no surprises, there is nothing new to say. It’s just that revisiting the old stuff is sweet nostalgia. And it really does put it all together efficiently and engagingly.

They’ve made a grand job of finding the footage, enhancing and editing it, making the sound perfect, and adding new interviews with Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, plus a few random celebs. Beatles fans will be begging for more, but generally the fast-moving 100 minutes are just about right.

It is written by Mark Monroe, with P.G. Morgan as story consultant.
