The Little Vampire *** (2000, Jonathan Lipnicki, Rollo Weeks, Richard E Grant) – Classic Movie Review 1771

1

A married couple called the Thompsons (Tommy Hinkley, Pamela Gidley) move with their nine-year-old lad Tony (Jonathan Lipnicki) to the Scottish Highlands, where the boy starts dreaming about vampires.

Then at first he is soon alienated from his unbelieving friends for his belief in the vampires. But, sure enough, he finds himself face to face with a family of bloodsuckers when he meets and becomes new best friends with the little vampire kid Rudolph Sackville-Bagg (Rollo Weeks).

Director Ulrich (Uli) Edel’s spooky, well-made, junior-league 2000 vampire comedy-adventure chiller yarn is ideal entertainment for youngsters. Karey Kirkpatrick’s entertaining screenplay is based on the popular novel by Angela Sommer-Bodenburg.

Among the excellent cast are Richard E Grant, Jim Carter, Alice Krige, Anna Popplewell, John Wood, Ed Stoppard, Jake D’Arcy, Scott Fletcher, Johnny Meres and Iain De Caestecker.
