The Lost World ** (1992, David Warner, John Rhys-Davies, Eric McCormack) – Classic Movie Review 5123

Timothy Bond directs a tolerable but undistinguished 1992 Canadian third film version of The Lost World, with David Warner, John Rhys-Davies and Eric McCormack, plus location filming in Zimbabwe.

Rhys-Davies is well cast as Professor Challenger, who claims that dinosaurs still rule the Earth in the Amazon, and as no one believes him, sets off with a gang of explorers to the South American jungle in search of the prehistoric creatures. Warner plays rival Professor Summerlee and McCormack plays handsome newspaper reporter Ed Malone.

Apart from a reasonable cast, and good work on camera and score, the third film version of the Arthur Conan Doyle tale is pretty feeble all round, as it does not seem to have the budget to realize the story’s full potential. Hence we get a rather sparse landscape of rather rubber-looking dinosaurs. Nevertheless, Warner, Rhys-Davies and McCormack give attractive, decent performances.

Also in the cast are Nathania Stanford, Darren Peter Mercer and Tamara Gorski.
