The world’s most famous diamond has been snatched from the finger of a murder victim and only one man can solve the case.

But Inspector Clouseau (Steve Martin) hasn’t a clue and he’ll crack everything before he cracks the case. However, he’s got a partner called Ponton (actual Frenchman Jean Reno) who might help.

There are too few laughs in director Shawn Levy’s clumsy 2006 comedy remake of the Peter Sellers’s 1963 classic The Pink Panther. Martin is struggling but Kevin Kline is no good at all as Chief Inspector Dreyfus.

Jason Statham is uncredited as Yves Gluant.

Also in the co-starring cast are Emily Mortimer, Henry Czerny, Kristin Chenoweth, Roger Rees and Beyoncé Knowles. Jason Statham and Clive Owen are uncredited as Yves Gluant and Agent 006 Nigel Boswell.

The simple-minded screenplay is by Martin and Len Blum.

Followed by The Pink Panther 2 (2009).
