The Rage: Carrie 2 ** (1999, Emily Bergl, Jason London, Dylan Bruno) – Classic Movie Review 1813

1

Director Katt Shea’s 1999 horror thriller sequel stars Emily Bergl as outcast teenager Rachel Lang, who attends Bates High School. But the other pupils had better stay on her good side, as she has an uncontrollably nasty temper that proves deadly.

2

Based on the characters by Stephen King, and with a screenplay by Rafael Moreu, this belated supernatural chiller is certainly gory and fiery. But alas it is also none too original, exciting or terrifying.

However, it is okay and watchable as a cheap teen horror flick, with reasonable effects and decent acting from stars Bergl and Jason London (as Jesse Ryan), although not a patch on the 1976 classic and would have done better not to try to connect itself with it and be its own stand-alone thing.

Amy Irving is welcome back as the sole survivor here of the actors from the original film s her original character Sue Snell. Dylan Bruno, J Smith-Cameron, Zachery Ty Bryan, John Doe, Gordon Clapp, Rachel Blanchard, Charlotte Ayanna, Justin Urich, Elijah Craig, Eddie Kaye Thomas and Mena Suvari are also in the cast.

Horror buffs will be pleased to know that it’s rated R for strong graphic horror violence and gore, brief strong sexuality and language.

Gabriella Wilde plays Sue Snell in the 2013 remake of Carrie. Katt Shea also directed Poison Ivy in 1992 with Drew Barrymore.
