The Vampire’s Ghost * (1945, John Abbott, Charles Gordon, Peggy Stewart, Grant Withers, Adele Mara, Roy Barcroft) – Classic Movie Review 5086

John Abbott stars as an old African gangster named Webb Fallon who is running a bar in a small African port. But he is really a vampire cursed as undead in the 16th century, in director Lesley Selander’s flaccid, cheaply made 1945 horror chiller. Even at only 59 minutes, it is remarkably slow and boring, and its screenplay cannot reheat the old ideas to any tasty effect.

The cast also includes Charles Gordon, Peggy Stewart, Grant Withers, Adele Mara, Roy Barcroft, Martin Wilkins and Emmett Vogan, all of whom look as though they would prefer to be in some other movie.

It is written by John K Butler and Leigh Brackett, shot in black and white by Ellis Thackerey and Robert Pittack, produced for Republic by Rudolph E Abel and scored by Richard Cherwin.

Republic released it in a double bill with The Phantom Speaks.
