Kurt Russell and Madeleine Stowe star as a white middle-class married couple who call the cops when a black robber breaks into their LA suburban home. Ray Liotta plays one of the cops, a psychotic who won’t leave them alone, particularly Stowe.
Director Jonathan Kaplan’s 1992 thriller is at least about something, but it is shamefully unsubtle and exploitative, abusing people’s worries about law and order, rape, the race issue and police brutality.
As a mystery, Lewis Colick’s screenplay signals all its punches and wastes time on character development and issues when it would be more effective as a plain action thriller.
Also in the cast are Roger E Mosley, Ken Lerner and Deborah Offner.
It is shot by Jamie Anderson, produced by Charles Gordon and scored by James Horner. It is based on a story by Colick, George D Putnam and John Katchmer.
