Kate Hudson and Matt Dillon are the nice stars as newly weds Molly and Carl Peterson, but it is Owen Wilson who steals the movie as their rather creepy best man Dupree, who stays on as a house guest after the wedding, much to Molly’s annoyance.
Carl’s best friend Dupree has been displaced from his home and fired from his job because of attending their wedding. Carl and Molly have no choice but to take Dupree in – for a few days – but he outstays his welcome.
This could be a horror movie, but instead it’s a very amusing comedy in the hands of experts, with zingy performances from an excellent cast, a good screenplay by Michael LeSieur and expert direction from the Russo brothers, who went on to bigger things with Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014) and Captain America: Civil War (2016).
Also in the cast are Michael Douglas as Mr Thompson, Seth Rogen as Neil, Amanda Detmer as Annie and Bill Hader as Mark, with Lance Armstrong appearing as himself.
Kate Hudson and Owen Wilson started dating in 2006 after starring in You, Me and Dupree together, but split in 2007. They reunited again in February 2009 but decided to end their relationship for good in April 2009 after Hudson turned down Wilson’s marriage proposal.
