13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi *** (2016, John Krasinski, Pablo Schreiber, James Badge Dale) – Movie Review

Director Michael Bay’s 2012-set real-life action thriller is a sterling 2016 account of the attack at a US compound in Libya in which the American ambassador is killed. It focuses on the bravery of a six-man American security team who battle to get folks out alive from the appalling, shocking scenes of death, destruction and chaos.

Bay goes the route of employing actors (John Krasinski, Pablo Schreiber, James Badge Dale) not stars, which pays off in terms of solid performances but not in the way of helping towards creating a memorable movie.

The prolonged battle sequences are astonishingly realistically and well achieved. Indeed, once the  movie gets revved up, it’s entirely just one long battle for two hours.

Also in the cast are David Denman, Max Martini, Adam Lieberman, Dominic Fumusa and Saif Braik.
