Robert Lansing and James Congdon star as two brothers (research scientist Dr Scott Nelson and physicist Dr Tony Nelson) who develop an amplifier that allows someone to enter a 4-dimensional state and pass through solid surfaces, in director Irvin Yeaworth Jr’s interestingly premised 1959 sci-fi horror hybrid, 4D Man. Both men love the same woman, Linda Davis (Lee Meriwether).
Dr Scott Nelson (Lansing) has perfected a supposedly impenetrable metal, but, with his own peculiar brainwaves, he finds he can pass through it and any object. Robbery and murder soon follow as he ages rapidly and he begins killing people, sucking out his victims’ life energies to regain his youth.
4D Man is a surprisingly nifty, enjoyable and intelligent Fifties B-movie, with okay effects for their time and budget.
Also in the cast are Robert Strauss, Edgar Stehli, Patty Duke, Guy Raymond, Chic James, Elbert Smith, George Karas and Jasper Deeter.
The screenplay by Theodore Simonson and Cy Chermak is based on an idea by Jack H Harris.
