Fabrice Cazeneuve’s Á cause d’un garçon [Because of a Boy] [You’ll get over it] is a sweet, appealing, involving and thought provoking made for TV 2002 French film with good and believable acting, especially by Julien Baumgartner as Vincent Molina, a nice young gay guy, who finds himself the victim of homophobic outing at his high school, where he is in the swim team.
Vincent is a shy but good student with a girlfriend in Noémie (Julia Maraval) and a best friend in Stéphane (François Comar). But Vincent’s close encounters with the new boy Benjamin (Jérémie Elkaïm) lead boys write on a wall ‘Molina is a fag’ and Vincent starts getting bullied at school.
OK there are no surprises or big challenges in this familiar gay-themed coming of age film, but nevertheless it comes up fresh, vibrant and relevant.
Vincent Molina.
