Xavier Samuel stars as David who meets Oz gal Mia (Laura Brent) and they enjoy a vacation romance. After a week, David proposes marriage to Mia, returns to England and then travels to Australia with his three best men Tom, Graham and Luke (Kris Marshall, Kevin Bishop and Tim Draxl). They cause a lot of comedic problems before the Brit groom finally gets hitched to Mia.
There are a few good laughs along the way, but this likeable enough 2011 comedy from Stephan Elliott, the director of The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (1994), could have been a whole lot funnier. The appealing actors are game for a laugh and just fine when Dean Craig’s screenplay supports them, which is only some of the time. But they are sometimes struggling in some desperately unfunny sequences and with too many duff lines.
A still feisty Olivia Newton-John scores a hit as the bride’s raunchy mother and Rebel Wilson makes a splash as Daphne.
Samuel and Marshall star in a 2016 follow-up, A Few Less Men.
