Co-writer/ director Nick Park’s 25-minute Aardman 1993 Wallace and Gromit cartoon adventure is a richly enjoyable Oscar-nominated Best Animated Short Film, with a winning mix of comedy, cute Plasticine figures and charming stop motion animation.
It is driven by a witty spoof story, in which crazy inventor Wallace (voice of Peter Sallis) and his dog Gromit build a rocket and set off on a Moon trip when they find they have no cheese indoors. This is a fast-moving and affectionate labour of love with a smashing sense of fun. Park provides the beautifully crafted, painstaking animation and co-writes the script with Steve Rushton.
It is the first of four Wallace & Gromit shorts, followed by Creature Comforts, The Wrong Trousers and A Close Shave, and the features Chicken Run (2000), The Curse of the Were-Rabbit (2005) and Shaun the Sheep (2015).
It is made with the support of the National Film and Television School (NFTS) .
