Cary Grant (January 18, 1904 – November 29, 1986) was born in Horfield, Bristol, England as Archibald Alec Leach. He became a naturalized US citizen on June 26, 1942, aged 38, and legally changed his name to Cary Grant.
He said he did ‘everything in moderation. Except making love’. He also said: ‘I pretended to be somebody I wanted to be until finally I became that person. Or he became me.’
Grant was married five times. He wed Virginia Cherrill on February 9, 1934. He married Barbara Hutton in 1942, one of the wealthiest women in the world. They were derisively nicknamed ‘Cash and Cary’. He married Betsy Drake on December 25, 1949. They starred together in two films and it was his longest marriage, Grant married Dyan Cannon on July 22, 1965. their daughter Jennifer was born on February 26, 1966, his only child. On April 11, 1981, Grant married Barbara Harris, a British hotel public relations agent who was 47 years his junior. Grant lived with Randolph Scott off and on for 12 years after meeting in 1932 at the Paramount studio.
