A Man, a Woman and a Bank *** (1979, Donald Sutherland, Brooke Adams, Paul Mazursky) – Classic Movie Review 9535

Donald Sutherland and Brooke Adams star as amateur crooks Reese Halperin (Sutherland) and Stacey Bishop (Adams), who find a computerised way to rob a Vancouver bank, in director Noel Black’s generally amusing, often tense Seventies Canadian heist caper movie A Man, a Woman and a Bank (1979).

Great performances from the two appealing stars and from Paul Mazursky as Sutherland’s computer-whiz sidekick Norman Barrie hugely enliven the proceedings. And it is a good-looking film, thanks to the eye-catching locations captured in Jack Cardiff’s distinguished cinematography.

Raynold Gideon, Bruce A Evans, and Stuart Margolin write the screenplay from the story by Raynold Gideon and Bruce A Evans.

Sutherland and Adams starred together the year before in Invasion of the Body Snatchers.

A Man, a Woman and a Bank [A Very Big Withdrawal] is directed by Noel Black, runs 100 minutes, is made by Bennettfilms Inc and McNichol, is released by AVCO Embassy Pictures (1979) (US), is written by Raynold Gideon, Bruce A Evans and Stuart Margolin, is shot by Jack Cardiff, is produced by John B Bennett and Peter Samuelson, is scored by Bill Conti and is designed by Anne Pritchard.
