Director Diane Kurys’s 1987 French-Italian drama film A Man in Love [Un Homme Amoureux] stars Peter Coyote, Greta Scacchi, Jamie Lee Curtis, Peter Riegert, Claudia Cardinale. It is Kurys’s first English language film and was entered into the 1987 Cannes Film Festival for its premiere on 7 May 1987.

While shooting a film in Rome, a heavyweight American actor (Coyote) falls for an English bit-part player (Scacchi), but finds that his attachment to his wife (Curtis) gets in the way.

Not a patch on Kurys’s earlier efforts such as Coup de Foudre, this ponderous and portentous drama is wildly overblown and foolishly steamy. But it remains intriguing and watchable thanks to the premise, Kurys’s sincere commitment to the project and some entertaining performances, especially from the supporting players.
