Director Roger Spottiswoode’s 2015 feel good true story comedy drama is a loveable boy meets cat, falls for cat, lives happily ever after love story. Luke Treadaway as the boy is nearly as cute and good an actor as the cat!
Treadaway plays busker and recovering drug addict James Bowen, whose is life transformed when he meets a stray ginger cat called Bob. I love it that they cast several cats to play Bob but he was such a star that he played himself for most of the film.
A Street Cat Named Bob is adorable! It purrs along so sweetly. A boy, a cat, the Big Issue, Covent Garden, a feel-good story about a second chance. What more do you want?
Oh and Joanne Froggatt plays Treadaway’s caring social worker and Anthony Head his less than caring dad, while Ruta Gedmintas is appealing as the sweet, cookie girl next door.
Tim John and Maria Nation’s screenplay is based on Bowen’s international best selling book.
