Director Guy Green’s 1970 film A Walk in the Spring Rain is a ghastly romantic drama, based on Rachel Maddox’s novel, wasting the talents of the great Ingrid Bergman and Anthony Quinn, both still in their prime and ready for much, much better.
Grannie Libby Meredith (Ingrid) is comfortably wedded to college professor lecturer Roger Meredith (Fritz Weaver), but has a fling with mountain man Will Cade (Quinn) while on vacation in the Great Smoky Mountain region of Tennessee.
It is a pity that she didn’t fling producer Stirling Silliphant’s silly script off the mountain. Even the title inspires terror.
Also in the cast are Katherine Crawford, Tom Fielding, Virginia Gregg and Mitchell Silverman.
The stars previously paired for The Visit (1964).
A Walk in the Spring Rain is directed by Guy Green, runs 98 minutes, is made by Pingee Productions, is released by Columbia Pictures, is written by Stirling Silliphant, is shot in Panavision and Eastmancolor by Charles B Lang, is produced by Stirling Silliphant and is scored by Elmer Bernstein.
It was shot in Spring 1969.
Bruce Lee is the fight choreographer.
The producers thank U.S. Department of the Interior and U.S. National Park Service for their cooperation and permission to photograph in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. So at least you might say it looks good.
