Director Adam Shankman’s 2002 romance delivers another of Nicholas Sparks’s bestselling novels successfully to the screen, following Message in a Bottle in 1999.
Shane West stars as a cocky, tearaway North Carolina student called Landon Carter, who gets into trouble and is forced to do community service. But he ends up finding love with church minister the Reverend Sullivan (Peter Coyote)’s virginal daughter Jamie Sullivan (played by Mandy Moore).
The story follows familiar lines, but this is still quite a sweet, good-natured, simple romantic drama with pleasant performances from a nice cast. Daryl Hannah also stars as Cynthia Carter.
Lauren German, Clayne Crawford, Al Thompson, Paz de la Huerta, Jonathan Parks Jordan, Matt Lutz, David Andrews, David Lee Smith, Xavier Hernandez, Marisa Miller, Paula Jones, Erik Smith, Al Butler and Seth Howard co-star.
Several of Nicholas Sparks’s bestselling books, including Message in a Bottle (1999), The Notebook (2004) and Nights in Rodanthe (2008), have been adapted into blockbuster movies.
