Romeo and Juliet in Glasgow. Strict Pakistani Scot Casim (Atta Yaqub) is set to marry Jasmine, a cousin he has never met, thanks to the arrangement made by his traditional family.
But then it is love at first sight when he sees his sister’s fiery music teacher Roisin (Eva Birthistle), an Irish Catholic white woman, upsetting the family big time.
Director Ken Loach’s grand 2004 movie is a brilliantly poignant tearjerker, with heartbreaking, star-making turns. In one of this fine director’s best movies, Loach’s touch is expert and secure. Writer Paul Laverty provides his usual exciting screenplay.
