‘Two Brothers Loving the Same Girl… As Dangerous as a Runaway Jet!’
Director Don Siegel’s disappointing, over-familiar 1953 American flag-waving patriotic soap opera An Annapolis Story [The Blue and the Gold] stars John Derek and Kevin McCarthy as US Naval cadet brothers Tony and Jim Scott, who undergo strict training at the Annapolis Academy ready the Korean War, and find comfort and discord by both being in love with the same woman, Peggy Lord (Diana Lynn).
Director’s Siegel’s professionalism is a lot more impressive than Daniel B Ullman’s stale screenplay and story, and the dreary performances. Sam Leavitt’s Technicolor cinematography is both a considerable surprise and an asset.
Also in the cast are Alvy Moore, Pat Conway, L Q Jones, Don Haggerty, Betty Lou Gerson, Robert Osterloh, John Kirby, and Barbara Brown.
An Annapolis Story [The Blue and the Gold] is directed by Don Siegel, runs 81 minutes, is made by Allied Artists Pictures, is released by Allied Artists Pictures (1955) (US) and Associated British-Pathé (1955) (UK), is written by Daniel B Ullman [Dan Ullman] and Geoffrey Holmes, is shot in Technicolor by Sam Leavitt, is produced by Walter Mirisch and is scored by Marlin Skiles.
