As Cool as I Am *** (2013, Sarah Bolger, Thomas Mann, James Marsden, Claire Danes, Peter Fonda, Jon Tenney, Jeremy Sisto ) – Classic Movie Review 4770

Director Max Mayer’s appealing 2013 bitter-sweet comedy drama stars Sarah Bolger as smart 16-year-old tomboy Lucy Diamond (as in the Beatles song Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds) who comes of age in a small town with her self-centered, cheating mom (Claire Danes) and dad (James Marsden), who had her when they were teenagers. 

Virginia Korus Spragg’s screenplay is based on Pete Fromm’s novel.

It also star Peter Fonda as Gerald, Jon Tenney as Bob, Jeremy Sisto as Guy and Anika Noni Rose as Frances.

Also in the cast are Seth Adkins, Rhys Coiro, Thomas Mann and Will Peltz, with Alanis Morissette as Herself.

Filming began in New Mexico in May 2011 and it was released in the US on 21 June 2013 by IFC Films in what is euphemistically called a limited release.

Mayer also directed Adam (2009).
