Dina Meyer stars as zoologist Dr Sheila Casper, who is summoned to the Texas town of Gallup, where she teams up with the surprisingly kindly sheriff Emmett Kinsey (Lou Diamond Phillips) after a plague of bloodthirsty mutant killer bats hits town.
It seems that a batty scientist has genetically upgraded the bats into monsters, so, with daylight affording the only safety, the duo has to try to stop the bats before nightfall.
Director Louis Morneau’s 1999 creature feature movie is a ropey old horror flick, borrowing heavily from The Birds (1963), whose hem it doesn’t deserve to touch. Rotten digital effects, dreadful puppets and a cheesy, unbelievable story in the screenplay by John Logan add up to make this risible movie not even much fun for a giggle.
Also in the cast are Leon, Carlos Jacott, David O’Connell, Marcia Dangerfield, Oscar Rowland and Tim Whitaker.
