Writer-director Michael Goldenberg’s 1996 romantic drama stars Christian Slater as shy widowed florist Lewis Farrell who sends roses to workaholic banker Lisa Walker (Mary Stewart Masterson) and they begin a whirlwind love affair, with Masterson scared that she will get her heart broken and Slater troubled by discovering that she has a past.
Writer-director Goldenberg tries hard to please in a mild, soppy, light-as-air romance that never quite comes alive despite charming work by Slater and Masterson, and lively support form a good cast who include Pamela Segall, Josh Brolin, Ally Walker, Debra Monk, Kenneth Cranham, Mary Alice and Anne Ptoniak.
It did quite well to gross $19,030,691 in the US an take an overall $27,315,527 at the box office.
