Big Momma’s House 2 (2006, Martin Lawrence, Emily Procter, Nia Long) – Classic Movie Review 10,990

Director John Whitesell’s farcical 2006 crime comedy Big Momma’s House 2 stars Martin Lawrence, who coasts smugly as FBI agent Malcolm Turner, forced again to disguise himself as a fat zany grandma, taking work undercover as a nanny in a crime suspect’s house, in this horrible, contrived 2006 sequel to the hit 2000 Big Momma’s House.

Whereas Big Momma’s House had a likeable setup, some obvious big laughs and genial performance by Lawrence, Big Momma’s House 2 is just slack, juvenile and unamusing. And Ella Mitchell isn’t around to re-create her amusing performance as the real Big Momma grannie from the original.

The writer is Don Rhymer, based on characters by Darryl Quarles. Lowell Ganz, Babaloo Mandel, Nicholas Stoller, and Oliver Stone provided uncredited rewrites.

Also in the cast are Emily Procter, Nia Long, Zachary Levi, Mark Moses, Kat Dennings, Chloë Grace Moretz, Marisol Nichols, Josh Flitter, Dan Lauria, Jascha Washington and Jeanene Fox.

It cost $40,000,000 and went on to gross more than $141 million at the box office.

The original cost $30,000,000 and went on to gross more than $173 million at the box office.
