Director Stephen Hopkins’s 1994 action crime thriller Blown Away is an involving, suspenseful and intelligent thriller but at the same time it is uncomfortable and exploitative feeling.
Jeff Bridges stars as Boston bomb squad man Jimmy Dove, on the trail of his old IRA-style-member buddy Gaerity (Tommy Lee Jones), who has escaped from prison and whom he suspects has planted the bomb that has killed his colleague.
Blown Away is is well acted by the two stars, plus Suzy Amis as Jeff Bridges’ fiancée Kate, Lloyd Bridges as Jeff’s uncle Max, and Forest Whitaker as a Boston cop, Franklin.
Also in the cast are Stephi Lineburg, John Finn, Caitlin Clark, Chris de Oni [Christofer de Oni], Loyd Catlett, Ruben Santiago-Hudson, Lucinda Weist, and Brendan Burns.
The screenplay by John Rice and Joe Batteer is based on a story by John Rice, Joe Batteer and Jay Roach.
