Can surfer babe Anne Marie (Kate Bosworth) ride the wave and win a big Hawaii contest? Will she fall for neat football player Matt Tollman (Matthew Davis)?
Director John Stockwell’s slick 2003 surfin’ soap is a fun guilty pleasure. It is pure corn on land but magic on the water, though, even so, too many of the shots look processed when they were supposed to be real.
Michelle Rodriguez and Hawaii surfer, model actress Sanoe Lake add girl appeal as Bosworth’s buddies Eden and Lena. All three are roommates living in a beach shack with Mika Boorem as Bosworth’s rebellious younger sister, Penny.
Lizzy Weiss and Sid Rogell’s screenplay is based on the magazine article Surf Girls of Maui by Susan Orlean.
Also in the cast are Chris Taloa, Kala Alexander, Ruben Tejada, Kaupena Miranda, Asa Aquino, Faizon Love, George Veikoso and Shaun Robinson.
