Brother *** (2000, Takeshi Kitano, Omar Epps, Claude Maki) – Classic Movie Review 6530

Writer-director Takeshi Kitano also stars as an exiled Japanese gangster who teams up with a US mobster (Omar Epps) to battle for Los Angeles’s prime drug turf.

This violent, stylishly arty 2000 crime thriller finds Japanese film-maker Takeshi Kitano on American soil for the first time, bringing all his own gangster-movie sensibilities along.

As stars, Takeshi and Omar Epps both show that they have the right stuff.

Also in the cast are Kourouda Maki, Susumu Terajima, Claude Maki, Masaya Kato and James Shigeta.

It is shot by Katsumi Yanagishina, produced by Jeremy Thomas and Massayuki Mori, and scored by Jo Hisaishi.
