Natasha Lyonne and Clea DuVall act their pom-poms off in director Jamie Babbit’s deliciously subversive, highly amusing little 1999 comedy spoof, with a witty screenplay by Brian Wayne Peterson based on Babbit’s original story. It’s billed as a ‘Comedy of Sexual Disorientation’.
Lyonne stars as the naïve, all-American 17-year-old cheerleader Megan who is upset when her straitlaced parents think she’s a lesbian and send her to a sinister rehab camp plotting to adjust the sexuality of gay teenagers.
The True Directions sexual redirection camp’s motto is ‘straight is great’, but Megan doesn’t heed the message and is soon attracted to a beautiful fellow female inmate called Graham (DuVall).
Also in the cast are Cathy Moriarty, RuPaul, Michelle Williams, Mink Stole, Bud Cort, Melanie Lynskey, Joel Michaely and Kip Pardue.
Also in the cast Katharine Towne, Douglas Spain, Eddie Cibrian, Dante Basco, Katrina Phillips, Richard Moll, Julie Delpy, Wesley Mann, Brandt Wille, Kyle Thatcher, Robert Pine, Rachele Carson, Charles Braden and Lindsay Calnon.
George Takei made it one of his celebrating Gay Pride choices on the IMDb in June 2015.
