Writer-director Henry Jaglom’s tasty 1983 comedy romance Can She Bake a Cherry Pie? is a whimsically amusing, talky, plotless film from the admired film-maker, with starring Karen Black as edgy Zee, taking up with hypochondriac divorcee Eli (Michael Emil) in Manhattan after her husband walks out.
Lovely, yummie performances, particularly by the endearingly kookie Black in one of her most skilled displays of acting ever, help it to get to you.
Can She Bake a Cherry Pie? is all served hot and sweet and delicious by cult name Jaglom.
Also in the cast are Michael Margotta, Frances Fisher, Martin Harvey Friedberg, Robert Hallak, Anna Raviv, Paul Williams, Ariela Nicole and Larry David.
Karen Black writes the songs and lyrics and has a fine singing voice.
Can She Bake a Cherry Pie? is directed by Henry Jaglom, runs 90 minutes, is made by Jagfilm and The Rainbow Film Company, is released by International Rainbow, is written by Henry Jaglom, is shot by Robert [Bob] Fiore, and is produced by M H Simonson, with music by Karen Black.
