Director William A Seiter’s far-fetched but thoroughly entertaining 1933 American Pre-Code romantic drama Chance at Heaven stars Ginger Rogers, Joel McCrea, Marian Nixon, Andy Devine and Lucien Littlefield, all giving enjoyable performances.
Rogers plays sweet Marje, who is in love with nice but ambitious garage owner Blacky (McCrea), who says he loves her, but she thinks is in love with silly debutante Glory (Nixon). So Marje tells him to marry Glory and he does, with everybody soon living to regret it. The three stars carry off this rather contrived and strained situation nicely, with charm to spare.
Written by Julien Josephson and Sarah Y Mason, and based on the 1932 short story A Chance at Heaven by Vina Delmar, Chance at Heaven was released on October 27, 1933, by RKO Pictures. It runs 71 minutes, is made by RKO Pictures, is shot by Nicholas Musuraca, is produced by Merian C Cooper, and is scored by Max Steiner and Roy Webb.
