Gene Hackman and Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio star as father and daughter San Francisco lawyers Jed and Maggie Ward, who battle on opposite sides of a lawsuit, in director Michael Apted’s 1990 thriller Class Action. Will it bring them together or will it tear their family apart?
Class Action disappoints as a sloppy, sentimental courtroom soap opera. The writing and handling are full of longueurs and hesistancies, and the film’s dénouement proves unsatisfying. But it is just about worthwhile for the excellent performances and for some good scenes.
Also in the cast are Colin Friels, Joanna Merlin, Laurence Fishburne [Larry Fishburne], Donald Moffat, Jan Rubes, Matt Clark, Fred Dalton Thompson, Jonathan Silverman, Joan McMurtrey, Anne Ramsay, David Byron, Tim Hopper and Robert David Hall.
Class Action is directed by Michael Apted, runs 109 minutes, is made by Interscope Communications and Twentieth Century Fox, released by 20th Century Fox, is written by Carolyn Shelby and Christopher Ames, is shot by Conrad L Hall, is produced by Ted Field, Scott Kroopf and Robert W Cort and is scored by James Horner.
