Director Diane Kurys’s 1983 French biographical drama film Coup de Foudre [At First Sight] [Entre Nous] stars Miou-Miou, Isabelle Huppert and Guy Marchand.
Diane Kurys drew on her own parents’ history for the story of an intense friendship between two women, Léna and Madeleine (Huppert, Miou-Miou) who are unsatisfied with their married lives and decide to set up a dress shop together.
More gusto and passion would help the nice nostalgic tale, but this is an excellent film with a wealth of elegant acting, charming pictures and an attractive evocation of 50s provincial France (Lyons).
Sequel: C’est la Vie (1990).
The cast are Miou-Miou as Madeleine Segara née Vernier, Isabelle Huppert as Léna Korski née Weber, Guy Marchand as Michel Korski, Jean-Pierre Bacri as Costa Segara, Robin Renucci as Raymond, Patrick Bauchau as Roland Carlier, Jacques Alric as M Vernier, Jacqueline Doyen as Mme. Vernier, Saga Blanchard as Sophie, Guillaume Le Guellec as René Segara, Christine Pascal as Sarah, Corinne Anxionnaz as unnamed, Jacques Blal as Lionel Feldman, Bernard Cazassus as Le chef de gare, and Gérard Chambre as Flirt.
