In director Tamra Davis’s 2002 drama, pop diva Britney Spears makes an unwise crossover to the movies, acting forlornly and singing to little effect as a girl at the crossroads of her life. The yarn in Shonda Rhimes’s struggling screenplay is a total snooze.
Britney Spears, Zoë Saldana and Taryn Manning star as three childhood friends who decide to set off on a road trip to LA to fulfil their dreams, and pick up a hunky young bloke called Ben (Anson Mount) whom they fear may be a homicidal maniac. Though they all start off being afraid of Ben, Britney’s Lucy ends up falling in love with him.
Britney’s plan is to go for a record audition, but her dad (Dan Aykroyd) arrives to stop her. Crossroads is predictable and poor in the extreme. Even the couple of songs are silly, and don’t even mention the acting.
Kim Cattrall and Justin Long are also totally wasted as Caroline and Henry.
It is the middle of three similar stinkers, preceded by Mariah Carey’s Glitter and followed by Jennifer Lopez’s Enough.
