As you can easily gather from the punning title of director Rospo Pallenberg’s 1989 whodunit teen horror movie Cutting Class, a knife-killer is cutting a swathe through the high school student body.
The goodish cast help a familiar horror plot get to the finishing line, bloodied but unbowed. As a main attraction, there is a must-see look at the young Brad Pitt on the way up, as Dwight Ingalls.
Pitt plays bad boy Dwight and Donovan Leitch Jr stars as the disturbed young Brian, recently released from a mental hospital where he was committed after his father’s suspicious death.
Both guys are after their high school classmate Paula Carson (Jill Schoelen) and then more murders start happening. Is it Brian or Dwight?
Cutting Class also stars Roddy McDowall, Martin Mull and Brenda James. It is written by Steve Slavkin.
Made by April Productions and Gower Street Pictures, it was filmed at Excelsior High School, 15711 Pioneer Boulevard, Norwalk, California. It was shot in 1987 and released in 1989.
